Ricky Ponting is an Australian cricketer and former captain of the Australian national cricket team

Ricky Ponting is an Australian cricketer and former captain of the Australian national cricket team. He has scored centuries (100 or more runs) on 41 occasions inTest cricket and 30 times in One Day International (ODI) matches, both of which are Australian records.[1][2] In Test matches, Ponting has scored hundreds against all Test playing countries. He is equal second with Jacques Kallis on 41 in the list of century-makers only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has made 51 Test centuries.[3] Ponting's first Test century was achieved against England at Headingley StadiumLeeds in 1997, when he scored 127. His highest innings is 257, scored against India in late-2003 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Ponting, among 41 centuries, has scored 6 double centuries, while his Test centuries have been made at 21 cricket grounds, including 15 at venues outside Australia. Ponting has been dismissed four times in the nineties, along with 96 on his Test debut.Ponting has scored centuries in both innings of a Test three times, equalling the record set by Sunil Gavaskar. This included a double in his 100th Test thus only becoming the only player to achieve that feat.In that match he also guided Australia to a successful run chase against South Africa on the final day.[6] In 2006, Ponting scored seven centuries, the most by an Australian in a year.
In ODIs, Ponting has scored 30 centuries against 11 opponents. He has scored centuries against all cricketing nations that have permanent One Day International status. His first ODI century was against Sri Lanka in the ninth match of the Benson & Hedges World Series, held in the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1996. His highest ODI score is 164, which he scored against South Africa at the Wanderers StadiumJohannesburg in 2006. This propelled Australia to a new ODI world record score, although this mark lasted only a few hours before South Africa overhauled their target in the last over of the match. Ponting is second in the list of century-makers, behind Tendulkar ] Ponting has scored 12 centuries at home grounds and 16 centuries at away or neutral venues. Seven centuries were hit at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He has been dismissed four times in the 90s.[8][9] Ponting previously held the highest score in a World Cup final with 140 not out against India in 2003, before it was broken by Adam Gilchrist in 2007.[10][11] He has scored five World Cup centuries, a record shared with Tendulkar, Mark Waugh and Sourav Ganguly.[12][13] His 145 against Zimbabwe in 1998 equalled Dean Jones' Australian record score, but this was surpassed in early-1999 by Adam Gilchrist's 154.
In September 2009, Ponting retired from Twenty20 international (T20I) cricket,[16] failing to score a century in a T20I match. However in the first International played, he hit 98 not out against New Zealand in Auckland.

Captain MS Dhoni is the golden boy of cricket in the present generation

Captain MS Dhoni is the golden boy of cricket in the present generation and he has taken Chennai Super Kings to heights known only to him. His clam and composed captaincy which seems invincible coupled with the cream of cricketing talent at his disposal makes Chennai Super Kings a force to reckon with.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings

Delhi have to battle historical problems while taking on Chennai Super Kings

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s destructive 20-ball 51 bludgeoned the Mumbai Indians into submission and helped Chennai Super Kings storm into the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012. A team that was patchy throughout the league stages suddenly blossomed into a dominating unit riding on the success of their captain. The victory against Mumbai gives ample evidence that Chennai have the “X-factor”- that helps them time and again rise to the occasion.

Table-toppers Delhi Daredevils face the onerous tasking of stopping this fearsome juggernaut in Chennai – a task that wouldn’t be easy despite their sustained brilliance right through the season.

The two-pronged assault of Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo came as a blinder at the finish after Michael Hussey andSubramaniam Badrinath’s steadied the Chennai ship through troubled waters. That, in effect, set a platform for Dhoni and Bravo. The other encouraging sign for Chennai was that their biggest asset - the spinners - came to the party and stalled Mumbai with some tight bowling. They were well complemented by Albie Morkel and Bravo.

As discussed in a previous article, Dhoni may have luck on his side, but he also has the guts to take brave decisions.

The qualification to the play-offs may have been Dhoni’s luckiest escape and he stepped on the accelerator when it mattered most. Off late, the swashbuckling Dhoni has been a rarity as he has taken on the responsibility of anchoring the innings for India and Chennai. Against Mumbai, he walked in with aggressive intent from the outset and his body language showed a sense of urgency. Some of the shots he played were absolutely brilliant, the most spectacular being his signature helicopter shot off Lasith Malinga that sailed out of the stadium for the longest six in IPL5.

While Delhi have failed to win their knock-out games so far (discussed below), Chennai altered the course of their history in 2010. After the heartbreaks in IPL 2008 (final) and 2009 (semi-final), Chennai lifted the trophy in 2010. In fact, in 2010, they were on the brink of elimination and it was Dhoni’s belligerence in their last league game that took them through to the semi-finals. The rest, as they say, is history.
Will 2012 be a more spectacular encore of 2010?

Delhi have been a dominant force in IPL 2012 and have made amends from their bottom-table finish in the 2011 season. Right from the pre-season transfers, one could sense that they had done their homework and were geared up for an improved performance. The acquisition of Kevin Pietersen and Mahela Jayawardene added tremendous firepower to their batting line-up which already boasted of the likes of Virender Sehwag and David Warner. Ross Taylor may not have lived up to his reputation during this IPL, but his mere presence in the middle order is threatening. Although Pietersen left for national duty, Warner’s arrival made up for that loss.

Morne Morkel has been brilliant throughout the season and has trumped Lasith Malinga – the most devastating bowler in T20 - in the wickets column. The tall South African has used his height and generated steep bounce on placid Indian surfaces. The surprise yorker is a lethal weapon in his armoury as it is fast and directed at the batsman’s toes. He has had good support from Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and the left arm-spinners. Despite all the positives, there is one thing that would bother Delhi - their history.

Since the first season, Delhi haven’t won a knock-out game in the IPL or a match that determined their progress to the next round. In IPL 2008, they met the Shane Warne inspired Rajasthan Royals in the semi-finals and were comprehensively beaten. Their exit from IPL 2009 was most shocking as they had dominated the whole season and had topped the table, but in the semi-final, Adam Gilchrist tore them apart with characteristic blitz. In 2010, Delhi’s qualification depended on the result of their last league game, which they lost. Their defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in the first qualifier during this season follows the unwanted pattern.

Although the current Delhi setup is different from the one that played in the first three seasons, it is imperative that they do not allow history to burden them following their loss to Kolkata. Also, they have to ensure that it doesn’t become a monkey on their back much like the “chokers” tag has become for South Africa.

There is nothing to choose between the two teams on their head-to-head record. In their two encounters during this season, both teams share the honours. When Chennai travelled to Delhi, they were beaten comprehensively. Chennai returned the favour in their home game. Considering the fact that their next encounter would be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Delhi may be a bit worried keeping their last visit in perspective.

MUNICH: Lots of money, lots of luck, and players who didn't care about winning ugly, just so long as they won, turned Chelsea into the champions of Europe

The money, of course, is Roman Abramovich's. The billionaire finally got his hands on the shiny trophy with big ears he so coveted. A bargain at 800 million pounds ($1.2 billion; 1 billion euros) and counting.

That's roughly how much of his wealth the Russian has poured into the London club he bought in 2003, filling the heads of Chelsea fans with dreams of such special nights and scenes like these.

Striker Didier Drogba, scorer of the late goal that kept Chelsea in the game in normal time and of the penalty that won it after extra time ended with a 1-1 draw, running across the pitch with theChampions League trophy in his arms and delight on his face.

Tens of thousands of Bayern Munich fans, forming a wall of red and white, silenced and shellshocked in their own magnificent stadium.  The team's last victory parade saw around 70,000 excited fans flocked to the streets to celebrate the clubs 2010 Premier League and FA Cup double and Sunday's bus celebration will follow the same route, travelling along streets including Fulham Road and King's Road before ending in Parsons Green

The flame that will burn during the London Games was lit at the birthplace of the Ancient Olympics on Thursday. Actress Ino Menegaki dressed as a High Priestess used a concave mirror to focus the sun’s rays and then light the torch which she then passed onto Spyros Gianniotis, a 32-year-old Liverpool-born swimmer, who won a silver medal for Greece. The torch will now travel to London.

He tried to completely change our Sunday habits, and has probably not quite succeeded. At least, not yet.
A final verdict will probably have to wait till next Tuesday, when the full ratings of the Aamir Khan showSatyamev Jayate will be disclosed by TAM Media Research. Perhaps it may be better to even wait for a few more weeks to pass judgment, for who knows the show could pick up speed in future episodes.
But the preliminary results show that Khan has not quite weaned us off our recent Sunday routines, where congregating before the TV at 11 am is not a must-do activity for most urban families.
According to a report in Business Standard, Khan’s 6 May effort – despite huge publicity efforts and widespread advance editorial coverage in the media – got him a TV rating (TVR) of 2.9 across six metros. The failure, however, seems to be in the southern metros, for the TVR for Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata is a more respectable
Chennai Super Kings have defeated Delhi Daredevils by nine wickets. The final three run came after Raina mistimed one that ballooned to midwicket region, To his luck, it the ball landed safely between the fielders as the batsmen completed a couple. There was an overthrow that allowed them to add another to the total as CSK sealed the deal. 115/1

10:57 pm Over 15:Suresh Raina flays Morne Morkel’s first delivery for a maximum over covers. Venugopal dropped Raina at third man. 11 runs from the over. 112/1

10:46 pm Over 13: Umesh Yadav back into the attack. Bowls a poor third delivery that Suresh Rains flicks to fine leg for a boundary. 6 runs from the over. 93/1

10:42 pm Over 12: Four runs from the over. The fourth delivery from van der Merwe was given as a wide after it had hit Raina on his pads. The bowler and his captain though managed to convince the umpire to overturn his decision. 87/1

10:38 pm Over 11: Out! Irfan Pathan gets the breakthrough for Delhi Daredevils in the form of Michael Hussey. Short and outside off, Hussey cuts it but the ball falls into the hands of Mahela Jayawardene at backward point. He leaves after scoring 38. A wicket and 8 runs from the over including a six off the last delivery over fine leg by Suresh Raina. 83/1

"We all love our freedom and own space, and that's no different for animals", says Parnell.

"Instead of seeing them locked up in cages, I'd prefer to see them running through the fields in the wild. I encourage people to protect animals' natural habitat and let them be as they're intended to be," says the South African cricketer.

The ad was shot by photographer Himanshu Seth, and Ayesha Wadiwala was the hair and make-up artist.

This isn't the first time that Parnell has assisted PETA in helping animals. He also posed for an ad about the cruel treatment of animals used in circuses. And he features PETA India as one of his causes on his website.

Hundreds of thousands of animals languish in cages in zoos around the world. Denied everything that is natural and important to them, these animals often express their frustration and loneliness through obsessive, repetitive and even self-destructive behaviour such as pacing, head-bobbing and self-mutilation.
